Here we are. The final class in level 1 for my AECP. This final class was Seasonal Scene Building with Nichol Magouirk.

There were some interesting techniques in this class, including masking which is what I used for my first project.

This card used the Cat’s Life stamp set. I could have used the coordinating dies to cut out the adorable cats, but I wanted to try Nichol’s masking method to create a single layer card that still had some “dimension” to it. The stretching cat and the cat facing backwards were stamped first. I restamped them on some masking paper I have and fussy cut them out and placed them back over the images on the card front. I then stamped the group of 3 cats in the background, placing them slightly higher than the front cats.
I created a mask for the 3 cats as well and masked them so I could do the sky and grass without having to worry about ending up with blue and green cats. The sky is Distressed Oxide Stormy Sky and the grass is Distress Oxide Mowed Lawn. The colouring on the cats is a mix of browns and greys from the inks shown in the picture. I used some brown ink to ground the cats and create a little bit of shadow.
I mounted the card with a very narrow green and black border. The sentiment is also from the Cat’s Life set.

Card number #2 is a shaker card. I used the Enjoy Your Journey stamp set and coloured it with Copic markers. I cut out 3 stitched ovals in black and stacked them to get some extra depth and strength and cut a slightly smaller oval in white. I stamped the sentiment in Archival Ink, directly on the acetate. I then used black foam tape to raise it all up enough to add the sequins for the shaker.
I have done quite a few “scenic” cards with products from other companies but this was interesting making these cards with Altenew products. Again, there is always something new to learn if you are open to it. There is a great variety of classes available on the Altenew website so have a look around and see if there might be something there that can stretch your artistic wings.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week! We finally have some nice weather so I am looking forward to spending some time enjoying the lovely garden my husband has created for us.
