This week, we focused on the “For the Guys” class, taught by the wonderful Jennifer Rzasa. While I didn’t really have any of the products that were used in the lessons, I think I made it work ok.

The first card used geometrics and neutral colours. I used the Shattered Triangles die set to create the “scene”. The sentiment is from the One Go: Birthday Greetings set.

I die cut both brown and patterned paper with the “shattered” triangles and used the brown paper for the solid triangles. I then paper pieced the patterned paper into the brown triangles and then used a few of the brown pieces inside the patterned triangles. I inked the edges of the cream cardstock with Distressed Oxide Vintage Photo and mounted on a kraft card base. The sentiment is popped up with foam tape.
Card # 2 utilizes the “You’re a Classic” mini die set and the Rows of Squares 3d embossing folder.

I added the outlines to the stamp as I didn’t feel it had enough detail. I sandwiched a panel of Black Diamond glitter cardstock between 2 panels of Row of Squares that I embossed on Brushed Silver cardstock and mounted it on black card before putting it all together on a white card base. It reminded me of tire treads.
It can be difficult to make cards for men, since we have so many beautiful flowers to work with! I find that keeping the design simple, and using more neutral colours helps it feel more masculine.
Jennifer taught a lot of great techniques throughout the lessons and the class is well worth taking if you struggle with cards for guys.
Do you like working with neutrals or do you prefer the bright colours and flowers that Altenew is so well known for?
