Hand Made cards crafted on the wild edge of Beautiful British Columbia

Shine on you crazy diamond

This week, I concentrated on the “Let it Shine” class presented by Carissa Wiley.

This class was all about the “bling” or shine on projects. You can be subtle, like my first card (at least I think it’s subtle) or you can go hard with the shine.

For the first card, I chose the Eclectic Bouquet embossing folder on black cardstock. I then rubbed some Sizzix Luster Wax to highlight the flowers and finished it off with some pearlescent watercolours.

I mounted it on some brushed gold cardstock and a final layer of black. The sentiment is a BetterPress plate from Spellbinders. I am quite happy with the elegance of this card.

Card number 2 is a little more intense with the shininess but still not completely over the top.

I used the Rustling Leaves press plate with some Tsukineko Dew Drops Brilliance ink in Galaxy Gold on a purplish cardstock. For the sentiment, I used the Ornate Nesting Die set to create a panel, which I popped up with foam tape. The sentiment itself is also from the Rustling Leaves press plate. Mounted on brushed gold card, and finished with some gold half peals.

The final card has the most shine. I used glitter card stock, which is not my usual style. I am not a big fan of glitter in general but it has it’s place.

I embossed the Precious Peony stamps on watercolour card with silver embossing powder and then watercoloured them. I used some black watercolour paint all the way around the flowers before I die cut them so there wasn’t a white border around them. I mounted the flowers on black card that I had spattered with silver ink, and added a strip of silver glitter card down the side. The sentiment is from Timeless Sentiments which I cut out of white and silver glitter card and then mounted on black glitter foam. It’s the glitteriest (is that a word?) card I think I have ever made.

I enjoyed the class, as Carissa showed a few different ways to add “shine” to your card and gave some great tips on design and flow.

How much “bling” is too much for you? Are you someone who loves glitter or someone who views it as a pain that you don’t want to deal with? As always, feel free to let me know your thoughts.

Next up, I am thinking I will do one of the ink blending technique classes but who knows? I might change my mind. I can guarantee that I will do something. See you next week!
